See things from your friend’s point of view
Tolerance is the key to maintain strong friendships. Do not let the problem to be blown out of proportion. Intense conflicts can arise from even minor misunderstandings. Defending your opinion firmly but tactfully, instead of attacking the other person, will help you deal with such situations more effectively. When a friend makes a sarcastic remark, at first you will feel hurt, but when you realize that behind the sarcasm lies a feeling of being neglected, you can reassure your friend that, no matter how busy you are, you will be around, when she needs you.
Accept that friendships change
Friendships alter with our changing needs, desires and lifestyles. While the magic in some old friendships never dies, you can outgrow others. It is natural to have many friends some of whose importance in our lives changes.
Making friends can sometimes seem easy, but the hard part is sustaining the relationship through all the ups and downs that are inevitable. Bring a healthy self esteem to your friendships and respect differences. Consider friendship a gift that is worth the effort to treasure and nurture.
